Dr Joanna Parr

President, Geological Society of Australia

Biography

Joanna is a geologist who has managed to have multiple careers in one organisation. Following a PhD on the geology of a highly mineralised region of central Sweden, she did a postdoc at Newcastle University NSW on similar Broken Hill-style deposits. In 1993 she joined CSIRO on a 3 month contract as a geologist exploring modern hydrothermal ore-forming systems in the SW Pacific… she is still there! Increasing management responsibilities have led to a variety of positions in both marine and geo-sciences. Jo is also the vice chair of the ANZIC-IODP Science Committee and President of the Geological Society of Australia.
