ACCOMMODATION

CURRENCY EXCHANGE RATES

New Zealand’s currency is New Zealand Dollars (NZD). Current exchange rate information can be found at www.xe.com.

Currency exchange: Licenced money change services are available at the Auckland Airport and at numerous Bureaux de Change located throughout the city. Most banks also offer currency exchange services.

AIRPORT TRANSFER

Auckland International Airport has regular bus, train and taxi connections along with private transfers to and from the city centre. Shuttle buses may also available to provide transfers to and from your accommodation.

AIRPORT SECURITY

Every passenger, and their bags, flying internationally or domestically is screened for security reasons. There are also rules regarding the quantity of liquids, aerosols and gels you can bring on flights into and around New Zealand, including those purchased duty free at the airport. BANKING AND MONEY

New Zealand banks are open from 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Automated Teller Machines (ATM) are widely available at banks, along main shopping streets and in malls. International credit cards and ATM cards will work as long as they have a four-digit PIN encoded. Check with your bank before leaving home.

Credit cards: All major credit cards can be used in New Zealand, with Visa and MasterCard accepted most widely, followed by American Express and Diners Club.

Coins: 10¢, 20¢, 50¢, $1 and $2

CUSTOMS

New Zealand has strict quarantine regulations and instant fines are issued for failing to declare items for quarantine on arrival.

ELECTRICITY

The electrical current in New Zealand is 220-240 volts, AC 50Hz. The New Zealand three-pin power outlet is different from some other countries so you may need an adaptor. If appliances are 110V, you may need a voltage converter.

ENTRY AND VISAS

GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST)

GST of 15% is included in most purchases and cannot be claimed back by overseas visitors.

TIPPING

Tipping is not compulsory in New Zealand – it is your choice if you feel you have received excellent service.

TIME ZONES

Auckland operates on New Zealand Standard Time– UTC plus twelve hours. Daylight savings times will apply in New Zealand from 27 September 2015 – 3 April 2016 where it operates on New Zealand Daylight Time – UTC plus thirteen hours.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommended you obtain personal travel insurance before your trip to cover theft, loss, accidents and medical problems.
